01Number SenseWork confidently with integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, powers, and scientific notation.

Remember these rules

  • Use order of operations: brackets, exponents, multiplication or division, then addition or subtraction.
  • Convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages before comparing quantities.
  • A percent change is the change divided by the original amount, multiplied by 100%.
02Algebra & EquationsSimplify expressions, solve equations and inequalities, and rearrange formulas one inverse operation at a time.

Remember these rules

  • Combine only like terms: 3x + 5x = 8x, but 3x + 5 cannot be combined.
  • Whatever operation you perform on one side of an equation, perform on the other side.
  • Expand brackets before combining terms: 3(x + 4) = 3x + 12.
03Linear RelationsRecognize constant rates of change and connect tables, graphs, equations, and real situations.

Remember these rules

  • Slope is rate of change: m = change in y ÷ change in x.
  • In y = mx + b, m is the slope and b is the value of y when x = 0.
  • Parallel lines have the same slope; an intersection satisfies both equations.
04Data & ProbabilityRead graphs carefully, describe distributions, make predictions, and calculate simple probabilities.

Remember these rules

  • Mean = total ÷ number of values; median is the middle value after sorting.
  • Outliers can pull the mean but usually have less effect on the median.
  • Probability = favourable outcomes ÷ total possible outcomes and must be between 0 and 1.
05Geometry & MeasurementChoose the correct formula, keep units consistent, and use diagrams to organize known information.

Remember these rules

  • Area uses square units; volume uses cubic units.
  • For right triangles, a² + b² = c², where c is the hypotenuse.
  • Check whether a question asks for perimeter, area, surface area, or volume before calculating.
06Financial Literacy & CodingApply percentages to real money decisions and trace simple code one instruction at a time.

Remember these rules

  • Simple interest: I = Prt, where r is written as a decimal and t is measured in years.
  • For a discount followed by tax, calculate the discount first, then tax the reduced price.
  • When tracing code, write the value of each variable after every step or loop.
